Discover the Hoof Care Approach That Looks Beneath the Surface
Applied Equine Podiatry (AEP) is a modern, science-based approach to hoof care that prioritizes internal balance, natural function, and long-term soundness — without relying on traditional horseshoeing. Rather than focusing only on how a hoof looks from the outside, AEP works from the inside out, aligning the hoof capsule with the internal structures so the foot can function as nature intended.
This method is rooted in anatomy, movement, and functional observation, with a deep respect for the horse’s innate ability to heal when supported by the right conditions.
More than just a trimming style, AEP is a comprehensive model for understanding how the equine foot truly works. It incorporates the science of biomechanics, neurology, and energetics (how pressure and force interact within the foot) to take a truly holistic view of hoof health. Developed over the past 20 years, AEP continues to evolve through research, field application, and continued observation in real-world cases.

Why This Approach Matters
Many lameness issues and performance challenges begin long before obvious symptoms appear. Subtle imbalances, strain, or poor load distribution in the foot can gradually lead to discomfort, inefficiency, or chronic breakdowns.
AEP allows us to intervene earlier, more precisely, and more naturally. By focusing on balance, function, and evidence, we don’t just address the problem — we create the conditions for lasting soundness.
The Heart of the Method
At its core, AEP is about creating an environment where the horse can heal itself. It accepts that imbalances caused by domestication (such as lifestyle, diet, and confinement) have real effects on hoof structure — and that with the right care, the foot can rebuild strength and function from within.
We don’t aim to “fix” the hoof in one trim — we work with the horse, trim by trim, to restore a foundation of internal stability that supports performance, longevity, and soundness.
My Approach as a Practitioner
As a trained and certified AEP practitioner, I use this method daily in my farrier work — assessing each horse’s feet based on internal balance, movement, and their unique needs. Alongside the High Performance Trim, I also use tools like Perfect Hoof Wear™ when extra protection, support, or rehabilitation is needed.
Perfect Hoof Wear™ is a flexible, high-performance hoof wrap that acts like an exoskeleton — supporting natural hoof function while protecting the foot in motion. It’s lightweight, breathable, and easy to apply without glue, making it ideal for wet environments, rehab cases, or even emergency protection. Because it allows the hoof to flex and grow naturally, PHW can actually help stimulate faster, healthier wall growth while minimizing impact shock. Whether used short-term or integrated into a long-term care plan, it’s one of the most reliable tools I trust to support the hoof — inside and out.
I didn’t create this method, but I’ve seen first hand how powerful it can be. I’m here to apply it in the field and help horse owners make informed, confident decisions about their care.
